In terms of weekly reach, radio actually ranks the highest among the major media tracked by Nielsen, reaching 93% of the adult population, vs. only 88% for TV, 83% for smartphones, 50% for computers, 47% for TV-connected devices, and 37% for tablets.

The podcast industry is a booming one. A decade ago, podcasts were a niche addition to your audio library on your mobile device. However, the number of people who regularly listen to podcasts has increased dramatically, especially in the past five years.

According to Edison Research, an estimated 36 percent (98 million) of Americans more than 12 years of age said they have listened to a podcast before in 2016. 05/18/2018 Nielsen Podcasting Insights: A Marketers Guide to Podcasting–How Avid Podcasters Influence Purchasing Patterns
A lot can change in a year, and podcasts are a perfect example of this. The medium saw a significant growth in engagement from 2016 to 2017. As a result, podcasts are becoming a darling of advertisers, as well as a trusted source for brands looking to reach consumers. But are podcasts driving results?

The report also looks at three new product categories from Nielsen’s Fanlinks Survey: Juice, Milk, and Cereal. These are mainstream products that nearly all U.S. consumers buy on a frequent basis, just the kind of brand-level advertisers that the medium of podcasting needs to attract! The report also looks at the increasing role of smartphones in podcast usage along with a summary of Nielsen’s brand lift studies conducted specifically for podcast networks. Nielsens Media lab also looked at podcast increase in purchase intent for a variety of advertisers, including personal care, financial services, and recruitment sectors.

05/16/2018 The power of podcasting: SEO keyword angles
Once you are booked on a podcast, brush up on the host’s website, bio and about page.

Listen to recent podcast episodes so you can get a feel for the types of questions being asked, learn a little bit about the host and ask about audience demographics. You have an opportunity to speak with someone who is going to listen to you for 20 or 30 minutes of their time — you must make an impression!

Before the podcast interview, the host or one of their representatives will typically contact you to chat about what they want to cover on the podcast. If they don’t reach out to you, you should contact them and ask if you can schedule a time to talk about what they would like to discuss on the show.

05/14/2018 How to Introduce Podcasting to the Journalism Classroom
I love new trends in broadcasting, and nothing is hotter today than podcasting, those episodic audio or video programs available for download by an audience.

Despite terrestrial radios consistent hold on listeners, podcasting has seen an ever-present increase of listeners with 21-24 percent growth year-over-year. Can you believe the largest growth is coming from the age 18-34 demographic?

When we see a media gaining ground in culture, it is the right moment to invest a staff’s time and resources into becoming prolific in that medium, and that’s what we have done at Ritenour High School to build students skills and their confidence as journalists.

05/04/2018 Branded Podcasts Are The Ads People Actually Want To Listen To
Podcasts are becoming big business not only for creators, but for advertisers. Podcast advertising is on track to hit more than $220 million in 2017, up 85% from 2016. And now that Apple Podcasts is delivering analytics on listeners, advertisers can rest assured that listeners are paying attention. NPR says it’s found that 75% of listeners took action on a sponsored message.

Midroll, the podcast content company owned by radio and TV operator The E.W. Scripps Co., has collected their own survey data and found that podcast listeners make it through about 90% of a given episode, and relatively few are skipping through ads. To make sure that listeners are truly engaged, though, more companies are turning to branded podcasts, full series produced to amplify a brand’s story, and find an audience of like-minded folks delivered free to consumers.
