12/27/2018 Best True Crime Podcasts of 2018
Best True Crime Podcasts of 2018

Over the years, I have come to believe that true crime represents the bloody, beating heart of podcasting. Or at the very least, the genre comes close to being that. True-crime podcasts have grown increasingly prominent and ubiquitous over the past few years, to a point that it’s become the gateway drug for so many first-time podcast listeners and a strategic pillar for more than a few budding podcast companies.

There are things to be skeptical about in this trend, of course, from the eternal questions that we may ask ourselves about the meaning of crime and murder as an object of fascination for a society to more specific ethical questions about many of the true-crime podcast productions that have sprung up over the years.

11/28/2018 What Is Really Driving The Limitless Growth Of Podcasts
At the DigitaLatest Conference at Industry City, Brooklyn this past August, where leading established and recently skyrocketing digital marketing platforms, tools and technologies presented latest capabilities and user trends, two of the fastest growing digital formats were at opposite ends of the time spectrum.  David Rosenberg, head of business development at Giphy, talked about the rapid growth in popularity of short form content: 3-second gifs that often convey meaning and emotions, like different types of love or humor, more effectively, memorably and virally than words, and short-form, 6-second ads that have become widely adopted.

11/26/2018 Spotify opens podcasting section up to everyone
Spotify is opening up its podcasting section to allow anyone to upload their podcasts to the service. The move could result in an uptick in podcasts that are available through the service that was first started back in 2015.

Spotify isn’t offering to host the podcasts directly. Instead, producers will provide the streaming service with a link to their podcast feed, after which Spotify will list it and make the podcast available to its 180 million users. Spotify is, however, offering to provide information on who is listening to the podcasts, which will no doubt be especially helpful to podcasts with paying advertisers. The service promises to offer daily stats about the demographics of who is listening to the podcast, engagement statistics, and where they’re listening from.

Apple continues to dominate the market for podcasting apps with a reported market share of 55 percent as of 2017, even though it can only be found on about 20 percent of the world’s smartphones. In other words, Spotify has a tremendous opportunity if it can dominate podcast playback on Android.

11/23/2018 The voice of influence – why podcast marketing remains an untapped resource
Through the trustful relationship between listener and the voice they hear, advertisers are presented with an opportunity to drive greater engagement and cut-through for their brand. The listener trusts the voice they hear and is actively engaged in the content that they have sought out, he says.

11/19/2018 The Podcasting Revenue Boom Has Started
As advertising revenues begin to catch up with the growth of the medium, podcasting is building the infrastructure of a billion-dollar media industry.

How many media sectors have seen their revenues, driven primarily by advertising, rise nearly ten-fold in the previous four years? And how many expect their revenues to nearly quadruple from their current level by 2022? At least one.

11/16/2018 Podcasting Provides Money-Making Options
These can be tough times for people working in radio; whether they are full-timers at a station or freelancers doing radio work on a per project/per shift basis. Playout automation systems, industry consolidation, along with low wages for everyone other than morning show stars means that there are fewer opportunities for sustainable careers in radio broadcasting; no matter how much one loves the medium.

Fortunately, the rise of podcasting (prerecorded audio programs streamed on demand on the web) is offering diehard radio broadcasters the chance to supplement their incomes, find new job opportunities, or just add one great career on top of another. The proof is illustrated by the following four profiles of broadcasters who are active in podcasting today — and making a living doing it.

11/14/2018 How to Be a Good Podcast Interviewer
Being a good podcast host and interviewer is more complex than one might think. It takes special skills to really bring the best out of your guest:

- A curious nature that has you asking appropriate follow up questions.
- The foresight to know when to pull the conversation back to the next question so as to not derail the show’s intended flow.
- The courtesy to listen intently to your guest to allow them to truly feel heard.
- The comfortability to embrace a few moments of ‘dead air’ to let the guest breathe, and to allow yourself a moment to digest what was said, as well.

11/12/2018 Podcasting for Fun and Profit
User engagement with podcasts has been steadily increasing, and many listeners actually prefer longer-format content, based on results of Apple's Podcast Analytics reported this week. The service, which Apple launched late last year, gives podcasters a way to track performance metrics including number of listeners, total time listened and time per device.

The audience for podcasts has increased as content has become more specialized in nature, the analytics show. Listeners engage with podcasts for much longer periods than with other types of online content, which tends to be shorter.

11/07/2018 Please Fix Podcasting Before It Jumps the Shark
Only a few years later, and after tons of mainstream media investment in the medium, the podcasting infrastructure not only remains weirdly amateurish and frustrating, but its content is starting to feel rote and unimaginative. I say this as a cheerleader for the format ever since I first discovered its joys in 2005, when Apple added audio feeds to iTunes and supercharged the medium. I have chronicled its rise in these columns, celebrated its compelling, unique, in-your-head experience, pushed for more advertisers to embrace its impact, and highlighted its many moments of creative energy.

11/05/2018 Share your passion by starting your own podcast
Many of us have thought about hosting our own podcast. We are all passionate about something, and podcasting lets you share it with the world. For example, you can hear our take on the latest Android news in our very own Android Authority Podcast.

If having your very own soapbox to a worldwide audience was not incentive enough, there are other potential perks too. If your podcast is successful, you might find yourself with a large following and a lucrative cash cow.
