5
Reasons Meredith Thinks Your Podcast Sucks
How badly a podcast sucks is highly subjective, and subject
mostly to how close you are to either the subject or the producer.
This means that if, say, you have a buddy who does a podcast
on flight sim games, and you are also a flight sim nut, your
opinion of the show will be way more forgiving on it than mine
will be.
And not everyone has good taste.
And almost no podcasters are professionals or have pro training
or experience in their field or medium.
And almost no podcasters have a budget to procure the right
tools.

Using
an iPod to Educate
These days, it seems a teacher can not turn around without
seeing a student with those signature white headphones covertly
hanging from his or her ears. Rather than fight the iPod epidemic,
teachers can use it to their advantage.
In a 2007 article, the Pew Research Center reported that more
than half of American teens own an iPod or MP3 player. The number
is up from 1% in 2003 and expected to keep on rising. Since
students are spending numerous hours a day listening to their
iPods, they can become an invaluable tool for teachers who want
to tap into students interests.
Apple offers free educational tools, educator-created lesson
plans, downloads, podcasts and more with iTunes U but there
are endless possibilities beyond what Apple has to offer.

2010
Predictions
1. Healthy Living
The healthy living trend will continue with more and more westerners
becoming conscious of the chemicals used in their products and
food. Organic, chemical-free products, and healthy living will
prosper in 2010.
2. The Cloud
The virtual "cloud" has grown in 2009. The benefits of virtualization
and collective space will continue into 2010, with significant
"cloud" growth.
3. Savings
The economic crisis caught many unaware; job security of middle
management was tossed a curve in 2009. As a result consumers
are becoming more savvy about what they spend their money on,
and they are less likely to rely on credit. Savings will grow
in 2010.
4. Simplicity in Design
Website load times are said to become part of Google's organic
search ranking algorithm in the near future. This will result
in smaller website images and simplistic website designs. The
web is likely to go retro in 2010, reverting to quick and simple
web designs.
5. Web Applications
Web applications, collaboration, and transparency are going
to flourish in 2010.

Reflections
on the Power of Podcasting
When it comes to podcasting as a medium, I am a true
believer. No, it never exploded the way microblogging or social
networks have, but the number of podcasts, the adoption of podcasting
by mainstream media, and the number of listeners continues to
grow incrementally, not to mention general public awareness
of the medium. I love the idea of niche-oriented shows that
appeal to smaller audiences than are required to support radio
or television shows. I have become A Podcaster and I just ca
not imagine not doing it.

Recap, 2010 Predictions
Another year has rolled by marked by miracles, political
milestones and tragedies alike. 2009 was the year of financial
uproar with bailouts and ponzi schemes dominating the news on
a regular basis. Chrysler and GM stalwart car giants struggled
to survive. Bernie Madoffs financial pyramid came tumbling down,
taking average citizen's retirement plans with it, emptying
the coffers of trusting non-profits and celebrities alike.

Podcasting
Definitions
Podcasting is quickly becoming a buzz word among the techie
crowd. So what is podcasting, anyway? Podcasting is online audio
content that is delivered via an RSS feed. Many people liken
podcasting to radio on demand. However, in reality, podcasting
gives far more options in terms of content and programming than
radio does. In addition, with Podcasting, listeners can determine
the time and the place, meaning they decide what programming
they want to receive and when they want to listen to it.
