Before last years event, attendees anticipated the debut of IAB guidelines for the format. This year, attendees have had months to think about market leader Apple’s launch of analytics for podcasts, sample from the bumper crop of branded podcasts that market leaders like Gimlet Media have produced and process the flurry of funding rounds podcasting companies have announced this summer: $7.5 million for Art19, $15 million for Gimlet and another $15 million for HowStuffWorks.

Are podcasts changing advertising?
Podcast listeners were few and far between five years ago, but now they seem to be everywhere.
Whether chuckling on a treadmill or learning about quantum physics on the bus, a growing demographic of people are embracing the medium. If you are reading this on public transport, in an office or some other crowded place, there is probably someone listening to one in your immediate vicinity.
The last few years has seen an explosion in both the number of people and the number of podcasts available. In the US especially, where the podcasting market is much more firmly entrenched, it seems like every comedian or entertainment personality now has their own.

Plan for Podcast Success with These Tips
1. Invest in Sound Quality
There is nothing worse than listening to a podcast full of good information, yet the audio is so bad that you only hear 80 percent of what’s being said. With the popularity of podcasting, finding out the best (and most affordable) microphones isn’t any more difficult than a Google search. Consider also how you want to mix the sound after you record. What software is best for your needs – and fits the budget – so the audio is crisp, clear and free of background noise and static?

The Art of the Taboo Podcast Interview
One of the great revelations of the rise of podcasting is the format’s eagerness to lift the curtain on the journalistic process and mine the method for material. Consider the raw interview, a nonfiction podcast staple that reveals as much about the person asking the questions as the one answering them. The most interesting ones stretch the form beyond the journalist’s traditional limits. If the classic journalistic chat is objective and emotionally removed, the best podcast hosts leverage their personal investments and creative conversational tactics to tackle even the most taboo topics.

How can you measure the success of your podcast?
Podcast listening has exploded in recent years.
Almost a quarter of Americans over 12 said they had heard a podcast in the prior month, up from 21 percent the previous year, according to the 2016 Infinite Dial study from Edison Research. In addition, podcast listeners dialed up an average of five podcasts per week.
The medium can be a superb way of establishing authority, and PR and marketing pros have jumped on the bandwagon. Podcasting also requires fewer resources than video and is frequently more accessible to consumers.

Social Media Versus Podcasting
47% This is the share of social news consumers who can correctly remember where they read a digital story in the last 48 hours. A new Reuters/Oxford University study followed up on actual social-media exposure and reading with a survey that found a little less than half of users who clicked into a story from their social feed, and a little more than a third from search (37%), could attribute the source. And just in case you think this is a matter of normal memory lapses, that attribution rate compares to an 81% among readers who went directly to the news source and discovered the story.

Do Podcasts Need TV Validation?
In addition to its second- (or third-) class status in media, podcasting has its share of issues. Podcasts are notoriously difficult for listeners to discover and for creators to monetize. And, unlike TV, film and even satellite radio, many folks still aren't quite sure what a podcast is.
